Celebrating International Women’s Day does not mean fighting to gain what women do not have. Instead, it is to glorify God and encourage his creatures. God created humankind in his image, and he made them, male and female (Genesis 1, 27). The earliest gender-related scriptures are in Genesis. I refer to that book to express my way of interpreting the concept of gender equality. So, God sees all humankind in the same way (equal). He gave them the same blessing, rulership, authority, ability, etc. They have the same rights. On this day of 8 March 2021, I am celebrating all the women pursuing others’ well-being in the world affected by Covid19. We all notice that Covid-19 has changed many things in our lives. They are some women that are supporting people. They may be psychologists, counsellors, spiritual leaders, caregivers, mothers, sisters, wives, nieces, grannies, colleagues, coaches, mentors, leaders, followers, friends, daughters, psychiatrists, lay counsellors, neighbors, healthcare workers, service providers, volunteers, teachers, students, farmers, lawyers, secretaries, all professionals and non-professionals, etc. They are performing the same duties as their colleagues (males). A word from us to you ladies: We value you in all you are doing. May God bless you and strengthen you. Happy International Women’s Day.
Yours, Rosine M. Kambale.
