Empathy: life lesson 1

I am a woman with many hats; I will share my life experiences to help those who have these same problems. I am a housewife, mother, employee, volunteer, entrepreneur on break, and servant of God. I am married to a man with a big heart who is a doctor by profession. At the beginning of our marriage, my husband’s patient had died. When my husband came home from work, he informed me that one of his patients had died. Without even paying attention to his non-verbal expression, I told him this: It is the will of God! he is going to rest after suffering. My husband was not satisfied with my answer. After thinking, I understood that he only needed my empathy and support. Empathy proves that we understand what the other is feeling.

Lesson: Cues like rest in peace, God knows, God is in control, no effect… often don’t help someone who is hurt. Sometimes we can support a person without saying unnecessary words to him. Active listening is enough, and then speaking when needed & using the right words. Let’s practice understanding how others are feeling before we talk. The video of this sharing is on my YouTube channel @Rosine Kambale. It is written: Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who mourn (Rom 12:15).
