As a doctor’s wife, I will share how to balance work and family. The day I was in labour with my first pregnancy, I struggled to deliver. My gynaecologist decided to intervene by cesarean to save the child and me. At the same time, my husband was treating a dying patient in the same hospital. It was hectic for him. What intrigued me was the testimony that the children of that patient had given me, telling me that my husband had not abandoned their dad while his wife was also in a condition that required his presence. I also hadn’t noticed that he was taking care of this patient. I felt him all the time supporting me. My husband’s attitude proves that he reconciled his work with his family responsibility.
Lesson: Balance is essential in life. Everything has a purpose and is necessary. We need to know how to balance our work and family by not neglecting family cause of employment or vice versa. It is written that if anyone does not take care of his own, and especially his immediate family members, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever (1 Tim. 5.:8). People we serve are also valuable; we need to show them love and care as my husband did with the patient.
